Last month’s Kadayawan celebration was full of awesome street presentation through the Floral Parade. I was very busy and acquainted with the pageant, street dances, mall shows of celebrities, sale at the malls, boxing event, special basketball game played by actors at the Almendras Gym and many cultural competitions.
I somehow regretted knowing that my group and I had missed the tribal village. It’s a display of all 10 tribes in line with the Kadayawan festival.Ten tribal groups in Davao City has its own booth or improvised house. It’s a way of showing to people how their tribal people live, survive and exist. Their traditions and tribal celebrations are also explained to all who wanted to visit and enter their houses. Every visitor is free to ask anything about their tribe. Isn’t it great!? There’s no need for you to go to the library or search the internet to know things about the different tribes! Plus you’ll have close encounter with real lumads and other tribal people in Davao!
The interior and exterior designs of each tribal house will tell what kind of tribe they are. Like in Matigsalok tribe, Datu Cosme Mungkal will help you understand that their scarf is used in many ways depending on the occasions! If you’re not aware of the ten tribes well here’s the list:
- Ovu Manuvu
- K’lata or Guingan
- Matigsalok
- Tagabawa
- Ata Manuvu
- Kalagan
- Sama
- Tausug
- Maranao
- Maguindanao

I’m into sports. Although I don’t do much sport activities I love seeing sport shows specially when it’s about swimming and uncommon ones! I think weird sometimes so I am also entertained with unique sports specially water sports! I play volleyball and badminton though. Lately I heard about the Melbourne Cup.
This week I search more about the latest updates in Beijing Olympics. I really admire people who are sport minded and do sports as well. If you don’t know what’s in Melbourne Cup you’ve got to see it now!
I’m excited for the next Olympics in 2012 that will happen in Beijing. Footballer David Beckham is truly a sport legend who will make a legacy in their country and in XXX Olympiad. While waiting for it we can read about Melbourne Cup to entertain us.Discover what’s in there and be dazzled!

Notice the eagle design
Yesterday was the Floral Float Parade of 2008 Kadayawan in Davao City. I did plan to go out in the morning to witness live the said parade. I realized that it was too hot to go out and there was more important thing to do than seeing those wonderful creations made by my fellow Dabawenyos. Thanks for ABSCBN for their live coverage. We were still updated with what’s going on in down town area with their help!
In the afternoon I slightly roamed around the city. As expected there were specific streets that were closed in the morning. Lucky for me because it was opened already when I arrived in the heart of the city. That’s one more thing that made me decide not to go.
Rizal Park is the place where programs in the city are usually held. A special concert was given and offered to the people of Davao brought to us by our city Mayor Rodrigo Duterte- ” Pahalipay sa Kadayawan,Konsyerto Para sa Katawhan” in our language. When we passed at Sto. Thomas Elementary School there was a boxing event. Diether Ocampo and Bea Alonzo were also caught at Gaisano Mall.
I was happy because the celebration for this year’s Kadayawan was successful, there were more participants in float parade listed who actively participated and there were no recorded bombings or threats.
